3 Day Portrait Workshop with Susan Patton

Dates: October 6 - 8, 2021, 9:00am to 4:30pm

Workshop Location: 141 Township Avenue, Suite 117, Ridgeland, MS 39157

Cost: (includes model fee):   

     $395 for MAG Members, registration open now 

     $420 for Non-MAG Members, registration will open on Sep. 8, 2021

Registration and Deposit:  $200 is due by September 14th to reserve a seat. Remaining balance is due by October 1, 2021. Seats are limited and a waitlist will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Description: Join Susan as she takes you through the process of a portrait commission. Students will paint from life followed by painting from photos of the same subject and finally painting from life to finish the portrait. Emphasis will be on the form and structure of the head as well as the color temperature within skin tones.

Supplies: Supplies are not included but a list can be found on Susan's website. Click HereSupply List for Portrait Workshop. Oil and Acrylic mediums are preferred. Tables and chairs will be provided, artists should bring a portable easel.

BIO: Susan Patton (b. 1975) is a professional artist residing in North Mississippi. She is also a Registered Physical Therapist but has put that profession aside for a season to pursue her passion for art. 

Susan has won multiple awards locally, as well as in juried national shows. Her art has been accepted into the Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Show, as well as the Oil Painters of America Salon, Allied Artists of America Annual Exhibition, the Boldbrush art contest, and the American Impressionist Society National Juried Small Works Show as well as the prestigious American Impressionist Society's National Juried Exhibition. In addition, she was a finalist in the 2020 Portrait Society of America’s Members Only competition. 

An avid learner, Susan is also known for her love for teaching. She teaches multiple sold-out workshops a year on a variety of subjects including design, brushwork, Plein air, and portrait painting.  Susan is a founding member of Mississippi Plein Air Painters, where she assists with organizing local and statewide paint-outs, one of which was featured on the national HGTV show, "Home Town." She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, Allied Artists of America, and American Impressionist Society. She is a regular blogger with Oil Painters of America.  Her work hangs among some of the most prestigious art collections. She is a highly sought-after portrait artist and is also known for her figurative paintings that capture fleeting moments in everyday life that people want to remember. She describes her paintings as, “memories to hold on to.”

Cancellation/Refund Policy: 

MAG Cancels: If MAG finds it necessary to cancel a singular session or an entire workshop, all participants will be notified immediately, and a refund will be made within two weeks of the cancellation date. MAG reserves the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum number of participants is not obtained by a specific date.

Participant Cancels: Our workshop sizes are small and we rely on your commitment to green-light the event. If you withdraw:

  • 14 calendar days or more, a full refund (including deposit) will be issued.
  • 13 calendar days or less, the deposit is non-refundable but any other payments will be refunded.

Please understand that even when a class has a waiting list it's difficult to fill spots at the last minute because people have made other plans. If you cannot attend you may transfer your spot to a friend or find another student to take your place. Please contact us within 2 days (48 hours) prior to the class to inform us of the transfer. 

If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, MAG must be informed immediately so that the Artist Educator can be notified. MAG will consider the circumstances with fair and reasonable consideration.
