Artist Bio
Kay Meadows, a fine artist/illustrator born and raised in Mississippi, has been drawing and creating art ever since someone put a crayon in her hand at an early age.
Her life and artistic journey took her out of Mississippi, living in two other states for many years and traveling to several countries. Experiencing new cultures, languages, and customs broadened
her perspective and creativity. While painting is her first love, she received her degree in
Commercial Design and Advertising. She built a career as a graphic designer working in several industries, including ad departments of grocery stores and department stores, a mission
organization, book publishing, a manufacturing company, and a print shop.
Wonderfully this has opened doors for Kay to do personal work, commissions, murals, and, more
recently, illustrate children’s books for Pelican Publishing. Recently published books illustrated
by Kay are Louisiana Animals ABC, Chili Time Y’all How Texas Found Its States Cuisine, It’s
Hot in Louisiana, It’s Raining in Louisiana, and currently illustrating King of the Shoe Box.
Parade. She also creates surface pattern designs and illustrations to go on products in the home decor market.
She has won many awards over the years starting in elementary school and as a professional artist, winning 'Best in Show' in two competitions and showing her art in galleries, including
several one-man shows. Recently in 2022, she was awarded a mini-grant from Mississippi Arts Commission.
