Artist Bio
The origin of Mayita Price’s inspiration began with her trip to the Saint Paul de Massole Asylum in St. Remy de Provence, France, a place where Vincent Van Gogh had a brief sojourn. Captured by the landscapes that remain almost unchanged since Vincent Van Gogh painted them over 150 years ago, she felt motivated to depict the colorful red poppies and gnarly olive trees too by learning from the techniques of this master of light, darks, color and nature.

Painting represented another evolution in Mrs. Price’s artistic expression. From an early age she had developed her creative talents through sewing, embroidering and quilting.

The artist sought the expertise of Dianne Norman to learn the essentials of the many media for painting using oil, pastel and water color. Since each medium has its own unique delights, the artist finds it difficult to select only one favorite.

A member of the Mississippi Artist Guild and the Pastel Society, for the past several years, the artist participated in the 2017 Mississippi Artist Guild’s juried art exhibition, winning second place for her pastel painting “ In the Pink” and also being awarded the Anne Rowcliff Award.
The artist is planning to participate in the Pastel Society ’s “Fondran First Thursday Exhibit” in May of 2017.
